The flavoring used to make these tablets palatable and chewable is a hydrolyzed soy protein that tastes like roast beef and liver to the pet. Dogs and cats love this flavoring and will readily eat the tablet free choice. This proprietary flavoring makes the tablets safe to use in pets, even if they have a food allergy. The flavored, chewable tablet simplifies daily dosing for the pet owner improving compliance and better clinical outcomes.
Yes, the active ingredient and all ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the tablet and the tablet is bilaterally scored so it can be easily broken in half. This allows for accurate dosing based on the dosage amount needed for that specific pet. The 50 mg dosage strength is primarily used in dogs based on the weight range listed. However, this product can be safely used in cats, if necessary.
Vitamin K1 or phytonadione is primarily used to counter a condition called hypoprothrombinemia in pets that is caused by the ingestion of coumarin-based compounds, which is an ingredient commonly used in commercial rodenticides (mouse and rat baits). Coumarin-based compounds prevent blood from clotting, which is how this ingredient kills rats and mice. If your pet consumes this type of rodenticide or a dead rodent that was killed by this ingredient, you need to treat this poisoning quickly. Visit your veterinarian to confirm the poisoning by this ingredient and if poisoned, your pet will require an injection of Vitamin K1 followed by daily administration of oral Vitamin K1 for a minimum of three weeks. There are other clinical conditions that may occur in pets where this product would be recommended, but the primary reason is rodenticide poisoning.
The recommended daily dose for each pet will depend on the severity of the poisoning and what dosage level is necessary to ensure the pet’s blood will clot. This range documents the safety of the product for daily administration. Your veterinarian will be able to provide the best recommended daily dose based on the outcome of the testing performed.
