Frequently Asked Questions

The flavoring is a natural, real chicken flavor pets love to eat. Since this is real chicken, you will not be able to safely use this product if your pet is allergic to chicken. An alternative option would be Pala-Tech’s Potassium Citrate Plus Cranberry Chewable Tablets, which are flavored with a different flavoring safe to use in pets that may have a food allergy.

For this condition in pets, the potential for formation of calcium oxalate stones is a life-long concern. Therefore, most pets will have to have this product administered for the rest of their life to ensure this type of stone is not formed in the pet’s bladder. Consult and work with your veterinarian to determine the best course of action for your pet’s specific condition and to effectively manage.

Yes, this product has been safely used by veterinarians in other species, such as rabbits, guinea pigs, etc. However, you will need to consult with your veterinarian to determine the appropriate dose and frequency of dosing to pets, other than dogs and cats. Using this product in other species is considered extra-label use and requires the input, approval and support of the pet’s veterinarian

Increasing the citrate levels in the pet’s urine is accomplished by feeding this product. By increasing the citrate levels, this will result in the calcium in the urine binding with the citrate instead of the oxalate, which is desirable since calcium citrate tends to stay dissolved whereas calcium oxalate tends to precipitate out as a mineral deposit (i.e. stones). In addition, supplemental potassium will increase the urine’s alkalinity (increase the urine’s pH level), which will further inhibit stone formation since calcium oxalate stones are more apt to form in an acidic environment.

This product is designed to specifically prevent the formation of calcium oxalate stones in the pet’s bladder. This product will not have any effect on struvite stones. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the best way to eliminate struvite stones.
